Steve Soper and Andrew Miedecke staged a remarkable recovery to win the Promo 500 after losing three laps early in the race with a damaged oil cooler. Amazingly, the pair made up the lost ground, and won by just over 4 seconds from the Schnitzer BMW M3 of Ravaglia and Van de Poele. Miedecke started from pole, and led the opening laps before being forced to the pits to repair the damaged oil cooler. Win Percy then took up the lead, and appeared on course for victory when his Commodore broke a rear hub, handing the lead to Ravaglia. But through it all came the Soper/Miedecke Sierra to snatch the victory after seemingly being out of contention. |
