The seventh round, back in established Touring Car country, attracted a healthy crowd as well as a number of local cars to boost numbers. The German organisers also took the initiative by opting to run the round over two heats in an attempt to hold interest.
The Nissan and Wolf teams returned, while the Luigi team turned out for the first time with a single Sierra for Thierry Tassin and Romain Feitler. The Japanese Toyo Tyres team brought its Eggenberger-built Sierra over with Kazou Shimizu and Hisashi Yokoshima driving.
Schnitzer’s tyre woes were finally settled when the BMW management relented and officially blessed its move back to Yokohama.

Jeff Allam started the first heat from pole and won the start but predictable Wolf engine problems soon saw him slipping back as Ludwig and Dieudonné forced their way through into the lead. Percy took over third in the Nissan and seemed set for the finish when a drive shaft broke, allowing Grouillard into the minor position.
Soper took over from Ludwig for the second heat, holding a comfortable overall lead. Brancatelli was retained for the German race after Niedzwiedz was injured in a shunt on the old Nürburgring the previous month, and took over the second placed car from Dieudonné, while Laffite subbed for Grouillard and Ravaglia did likewise for Pirro. Soper and Brancatelli led away from the start but fuel pressure problems forced Soper to ease the pace, allowing Brancatelli into the lead briefly before pitting for fuel. The Italian's stop promoted Laffite into a lead that he held to the end. Brancatelli took second ahead of Soper who had enough cushion from the first heat to ensure overall victory. Brancatelli and Dieudonné took second from Grouillard and Laffite while Ravaglia and Pirro took fourth. (AS)
