The new World Touring Car Championship had a false start like never before. No series sponsor: instead, teams wanting to participate in the championship had to pay $60.000! The Eggenberger Sierras were declared illegal for using a Bosch Motronic engine management system, but in the homologation form the EMS was Marelli-Weber. The other Sierra present, a Rouse-built car, used a Zytek system, but Andy had been smart enough to place a Weber sticker on the box: the car was allowed to race, but it blew a head gasket and retired. |
