A heavy downpour marked the end of this race, where Brancatelli had the lead and soldiered on with slicks, thinking the race could be redflagged any moment. When he finally did come in, the tire change went wrong and he nearly went out on three wheels. Dieudonné had been the first to change to wets, but even with these tires he went left and right from the track. Still, he and his team felt that they had won, but the course directors ignored the last few laps and Brancatelli was declared the winner.
At the start of the race, Schnitzer had been dominant on their Yokohama tires, but in the race they had to be conservative; they started with half-full tanks and planned two tire changes instead of one. Ravaglia would enter the car in front after two-thirds distance and so he had a good chance to win. But in the end, the distance Ravaglia covered in the redflagged race was not enough so he didn’t get any points at all.
