Dave Brodie stormed to a convincing victory in Thruxton's third round of the Trimoco British Saloon Car Championship on Bank Holiday Monday. Brodie overcame the rigourous Easter schedule to register the first victory for the BBW Colt Starion Turbo since his controversial win at the Silverstone finals last year. Neil McGrath and the Connells Estate Agents/Castrol Rover Vitesse came out on top of a race-long assault from Barry Sheene's Hughes of Beaconsfield Toyota Celica Supra, to take second with the former World Motorcycle Champion third. Oulton Park winner Andy Rouse suffered turbo failure with the new Sierra while Frank Sytner battled against mechanical ailments to register fourth, With all the other Class B contenders falling like flies, Rob Kirby and Graham Goode fought for class honours until an accident between the Alfa and Nissan drivers eliminated Goode. Kirby struggled to the flag while Richard Belcher moved into an overall championship lead with a fine Class C victory in his John Jeffries Engineering Escort RS1600i. (MN)
