Andy Rouse took his second victory from three races in the ICS Sierra XR4 turbo, at Donington's Trimoco ETCC support encounter. He was followed home by the Colt Starion turbo driven by veteran Dave Brodie, which had demonstrated blistering speed in practice but suffered boost problems in the race. Graham Goode took his now customary class win in his smart Nissan Bluebird, and Chris Hodgetts just beat Alan Curnow for the Escort class. All class winners set new records but the racing was rather processional and there were only 16 cars on the grid, two of which were effectively out by lap one. Significantly, this was the first time we have seen two turbo cars fight it out at the front of a British saloon car race. It will certainly not be the last. (MN) |
