It had been threatened before, but had never actually happened. Tom Walkinshaw Racing has once or twice entered a singleton Rover Vitesse in the odd British Group A race (since ARG's official withdrawal, that is), but a car has never appeared. Not, that is, until last Monday, when Walkinshaw himself arrived unannounced at Brands Hatch... and won the 10th round of the British Saloon Car Championship. A blown head gasket cost Andy Rouse any chance of giving the European Touring Car Champion a run for his money, although he still finished second. Dave Brodie, as usual, set the early pace, but suffered from fading tyres before half-distance, and dropped to third. Class wins went to Graham Goode's Nissan Bluebird Turbo and Chris Hodgetts' Escort RS1600i, the latter’s additional point for fastest lap shifting him into the championship lead, although with scores to be dropped it's still very tight...
