By his own admission, Andy Rouse was somewhat fortunate to win the 11th round of the Trimoco British Saloon Car Championship on Sunday. The final item on the Grand Prix of Europe agenda, the Group A race seemed destined to go to Dave Brodie's Colt Starion Turbo, which usurped Rouse's Sierra on lap five, and pulled serenely away as the race wore on. With two laps to go, the Brode revolved at Surtees, and started the final lap on Rouse's tail. Another spin at the same place then dropped the Colt to third however, behind Rouse and team-mate David Sears. Frank Sytner, Mike Newman and Neil McGrath completed the top six, whilst class honours fell to Jon Dooley's Alfa Romeo GTV6 (after Richard Longman struck trouble) and Chris Hodgetts' fleet Brooklyn Escort. Dropped scores have affected Hodgetts' title chances however, and with just one round to go Rouse cannot now be caught.
