A superb display of clean race-driving by Win Percy and Andy Rouse enlivened the penultimate round of the Trimoco RAC British Saloon Car Championship at Donington Park last Sunday, Rouse eventually getting the better of a race-long duel. Percy later rued his choice of tyres, feeling that he could have run a softer compound rubber. Frank Sytner's BMW was a lonely third, from Dave Brodie's Colt Starion Turbo - recovering from a disastrously slow front row start - Neil McGrath's Rover and Class B winner Graham Goode, who had to overcome all manner of problems over the course of the meeting, prior to scoring an accomplished victory. Class C honours went the way of Richard Longman's Escort which benefited from Chris Hodgetts' similar car dropping onto three cylinders. The class victory of Rouse means that he has clinched his second consecutive British Saloon Car Championship - the same weekend as he was finally presented with the spoils of victory from 1983... |
