A dry practice was spiced with some arguments: Stommelen was angry teamchef Jöst removed the brake balance knob (”otherwise you’ll ruin the front brakes again!) and Würth was angry Ford cosponsor Kraus copied the livery (minus the Würth decals, of course) first to Schnitzer for Stuck, and next to the Porsche of Wollek. Finally, the starting time for the races of Division 1 and 2 were reversed, so Division 1 was angry they had to drive in the afternoon, while only division 2 could have been broadcasted in that case. But there wasn’t any TV station at Spa! There was rumour about a boycott, so some “Belgians” (who turned out to be 3 Dutchmen and a Luxembourgian) were asked to take part in the division 1 race. In the end, everybody took the start, of course.

Back to racing. Plankenhorn had been replaced by Fitzpatrick, and the only exciting moment of the wet Division 1 race was the start: it was Stommelen who took the lead, but after a tap Ludwig went by and sailed away into the distance. Fitzpatrick had a more eventful race: “I didn’t have a chance to follow the Capri, I was nearly off at least once a lap!” He finished second, ahead of Stommelen who had a difficult time as well. The Pirelli rain tires did not help Wollek in any way to a distant fourth.
The Group 1B backmarkers provided some excitement: the very wet track was made even more dangerous by erratic driving from Hemmes; the Dutch lady still had troubles with Cleutjens (see last years’ Dutch championship). During the pace car lap, Hemmes move from left to right and braked on the straight, with Cleutjens behind her. When Cleutjens tried to pass after the race was started, Hemmes moved over and hit the Capri. Cleutjens spun and nearly hit some DRM drivers. The maneuver was repeated at La Source with another bang. Finally, Cleutjens got by but after the finish, out of the car he attacked Hemmes - which was fined with a DRM-size fine of 5.000 DM, whicj was reduced afterwards to 3.000 DM; a huge amount for an amateur driver.

In Division 2, Heyer had a troubled race, also victim of Pirelli, a down on power engine and failing brakes. Still, he managed third which was better than Stuck, who blew a turbo after an impressive run. Ahead sailed Ertl and Niedzwiedz, who finished in that order: 1-2.

In the Trophy, there was another win for König, while Glatz won the big class.
