The final round of the European Touring Car Championship was held at Jarama, Spain, over the weekend, producing the eighth win in the 10-round series for the Luigi BMWs. First home was the car of new ETCC Champion drivers, the Belgians Jean Xhenceval/Pierre Dieudonné, followed by the team of Hughes de Fierlant/Claude de Wael/Martino Finotto in Luigi's second 3.2-litre CSL.

Once again the Autodelta prepared Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT for Spartaco Dini/Amerigo Bigliazzi finished third overall, easily winning the class. British entries - the McMahon Racing Escort RS for John Handley/Alec Poole and John Markey/David Palmer in the Smith Kendon Mazda RX-3 - were out of mechanical luck. A Spanish renta-driver blew the Escort's engine within 7 laps of the start, while the Mazda dropped back from a class lead at 3 hours to 14th overall, second in class when its differential oil overheated.
