Rino Amighini , a 30-year old Veronese was crowned Italian champion Group 2 for 1973. Since the rain started at the end of the 1150 cc race, the winner, Santucci, got overall victory since his race average was never bettered in the afternoon, when the faster cars raced on a wet track.

Class titles for the 500, 850 and 1300 class were at stake as well, though there was still a race to go at Vallelunga it was thought - but then it would be cancelled after all.

500 - This was the first race to use the “F1 start”, the chicane was skipped right after the start. Lavazza was an early retirement and he was out of contention for the title. Amighini did fine, eager to snatch a few points for overall standings, but then he overcooked it and retired. Polesitter Squarise was leading now, followed by Nucci and Ciardi. Nucci broke a shock absorber, so Squarise won his first race (after five second places!) with Ciardi second and Nucci third.

600 and 700 - At the start Gattafoni was quickly away, but immediately retired with a broken carburettor. Mazzeschi now led "York", first 600 "Piero", "Yankee”,
"Tibeli" and Martino. More retirements: both Fasolino and "Yankee" had to quit. On lap six “York” was leading Mazzeschi - who had been in the lead two laps earlier and now had ignition troubles. This race was decided, while the 600 class the fight went on until the last lap, "Piero" locking wheels and slamming into the barriers leaving victory for “Tibeli” while “Piero” still was classified second.

850 and 1000 - Amighini took it relatively easy but when Pasolini retired he took the win home with ease, while Valerio did the same in the 850 class.

1150 - Santucci and Galmozzi had another battle, Galmotti on pole but it was Santucci who took the initiative - and clocked fastest lap, pursued by Galmozzi. But the latter went by, only to spin on the first drops of rain. Simeaner took over second, with Santucci winning the race.

1300 - Heavy rain fell at the start of the decider for class honours; Pozzo had qualified on pole with the Fiat Coupé, but in the race another Fiat held the upper hand with a win for Galbiati ahead of Bigliazzi’s Alfa Romeo. Earlier, Galimberti had led but soon was swallowed by the group, where Pozzo emerged as leader, only to drop back with a drowned engine.

1600, 2000 and 3000 - The track was full of puddles, especially in the straights, for the last race. Finotto’s Escort, piloted by “Pal Joe”, broke its clutch even before the start while Colzani fared no better, snapping the throttle cable only metres after the startline. Ruoso appeared first out of the spray, until he aquaplaned on the straight and handed over the lead to Ricci. He led for two laps and then disappeared into the pits with a broken piston. Rossi now was in command, very fast in the wet. Ruoso had recovered but was cautious, held second just ahead of Cipriani and in that order they finished.
