Car info:
The Swiss (!) round of the GT championship took place at Hockenheim. An interesting entry, consisting not only of Porsches but many Corvettes, two Ferrari’s and a De Tomaso too. Müller took the lead in heat 1, but had to retire after only 3 laps. Now Kretschi took over, but when his Corvette’s brakes weakened Fitzpatrick took over in lap 15, followed four laps later by Neuhaus. Kretschi eventually retired on the last lap. The grid of heat 2 (20 cars) was formed by the outcome of heat 1. Neuhaus lead after lap 1, followed by Haldi, Ekberg, Schickentanz and Fitzpatrick, the surprising order initiated by a spin of Wetzel in the first chicane. Both disqualified cars were obtained from the works originally, but notwithstanding doubts about the procedure both cars were out. Schickentanz appealed but withdrew, Neuhaus appealed too but to no avail. Three hours after the finish, Haldi’s car was weighted as well, being the new third. Unsurprisingly, the car was legal. |
