Brian Muir is now the only one of the leading four RAC Saloon Car Championship title chasers to have scored three class wins. Muir took the 5.7-litre engined Wiggins Teape/ Gartlan Chevrolet Camaro to an easy victory in a 25 lap event for Group 2 cars, whilst the favourites for other classes went out or dropped behind class rivals. In this third round of the RAC Championship series Muir failed by 0.2s to set a new record but John Fitzpatrick (1.7 Broadspeed Team Castrol Escort RS), Dave Matthews (from the same team but using a 1300 GT Escort) and Bill McGovern (1.0 George Bevan Imp) all smashed their respective class lap records, 'Fitz' taking the outright record as well!
The race was only enlivened by brief dices, apart from some close running between Dennis Leech (5.0 Boss Mustang) and Martin Thomas (5.7 Chevrolet Camaro) for second place, Thomas leading by 2.4s eventually.
