Frank Gardner took his fabulous Boss Mustang to its second RAC saloon car championship win at Snetterton, although the Camaros did manage to match the ex-TransAm Ford in performance on this fast circuit a little more effectively than at Brands Hatch the previous week. However, Gardner had it all under control and the Chevrolet drivers are obviously going to have their work cut out to beat him this year. The Escort TC and BMW merchants, too, have a hard task to catch Chris Craft, who once again scored an extremely convincing 2-litre class win with the five-speed Broadspeed Escort TC. This time John Fitzpatrick finished the race with the Broad 1300 GT, winning his class by over 40 seconds, and Bill McGovern's drive shafts stayed in one piece on his Bevan Imp to enable him to win the 1-litre section. |
