The bumpy Aspern airfield circuit near Vienna saw the second round of the European Touting Car Challenge. The first race for Divisions I and II cars proved an Alfa Romeo benefit, with Giunti leading his Autodelta team-mate Dini all the way, but Giunti stopped a mere 50 cm before the chequered flag to leave the win to Dini.
Their only challenger had been the German von Hohenzollern in his Alpina-tuned BMW 1600 TI, who harried Giunti until he lost several laps with throttle linkage trouble. Facetti won the 1300 cc class after Pinto's sister car had, first a puncture and then succumbed to back axle failure. The 1968 Division I championship-winning team British Vita Racing ran a Mini-Cooper S for Harry Ratcliffe, but this retired on the fourth lap with suspension failure after a two-person Autodelta attack. So Swart took another victory in division 1, after Abt had an early lead but rolled his Abarth. ”Pam” had been Swart’s closest follower, but he had to pit.

There were few entries In the boring Division III race. Dieter Quester In a turbocharged BMW 2002 TI rushed into the lead at the start (which had been delayed several minutes to allow him to repair a broken throttle linkage), but was soon out with engine failure. Now Austrian Helmut Marko took the lead in a Chevrolet Camaro, but as its brakes began to fade so the opposition caught up and overtook. Dieter Basche's works BMW 2002 TI took the lead, only to lose a lot of time with a puncture, and finally the Alpina BMW 2002 TIs of Günter Huber and Jürgen Neuhaus forged ahead for a 1-2 victory.
