This race saw the introduction of the Ford Galaxie and the Mini Cooper S.  Although Sears' Ford Galaxie was on pole, the Jaguars were first away and the Galaxie was fourth into Copse Corner, but the Ford's power soon told, especially down the Hangar Straight and at Stowe Sears stormed through into the lead. On the opening lap, Harper's Rapier was nudged in the back at Becketts. He slewed sideways and, as it rolled, was mounted by Christabel Carlisle's Mini Cooper S which came to rest perched on top of the Rapier. Neither driver was hurt, nor was Mike Young after rolling his Superspeed Ford Cortina. Hill, Salvadori and Salmon tried all they knew to keep up with the Galaxie but to no avail. Hill then retired at Club Corner with a burst tyre and Salmon pitted with ignition problems.
At half distance Sears had built up a lead of over 20 seconds from Salvadori, with Dodd in third place a long way back. Blumer and Whitmore still went at it hammer and tongs, whilst Gardner (Cortina) and Hutcheson (Riley) were also having a battle.
Ginther broke a half-shaft so Fords were out of the team award. Rhodes retired so the only surviving team, the Mini Coopers was also out. Hopkirk and Whitmore with their sideways cornering provided the main excitement. Sears eased off considerably after putting up a new lap record and rolled comfortably home to victory. Whitmore and Blumer circulated side by side to finish with the Mini Cooper just ahead. Hopkirk in the other works Cooper was also going very well and set the class lap record.
