In
France, Touring Car racing was not a top-line affair until 1974, when
the first championship took place. The championship was skipped in
1975; it reappeared as "Group 1B" championship, and in the 80s Touring
car racing
reached new heights, when France left Group A and set a standard for a
handicap-formula not unlike the later DTM. In 1987, a new championship was added for Group A cars, but this was short-lived; after two seasons it was over.
